Day two betting – The 2020 Cheltenham Festival at William Hill

Day 1: Champion Hurdle Day   |   Day 3: St Patrick's Day   |   Day 4: Gold Cup Day   |   Cheltenham Festival

Racing begins at 13:30 on Wednesday 11th March with the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle. The current betting is dominated by horses trained by Irish trainer Gordon Elliott with his main contender looking to be the unbeaten Envoi Allen, the 2019 Champion Bumper winner.

This is followed by the RSA Chase at 14:10, before the Coral Cup at 14:50. A good Coral Cup tip in recent years has been to back Irish-trained horse, as they have won the last three of the last four renewals.

The Queen Mother Champion Chase is the big race of the day at 15:30, before the unique test of the Cross Country Chase at 16:10, the ultra-competitive Fred Winter Hurdle at 16:50 and then finally the Champion Bumper at 17:30.

Altior tops the Champion Chase betting

Altior has been successful at the Cheltenham Festival in each of the last four years, winning the Supreme Novices' Hurdle in 2016, the Arkle Trophy in 2017 and then, most recently, back-to-back Champion Chases.

This year, though he heads the current betting, it’s hard to know if he’ll seek to win the race for a third year in succession, with targets over further distances including the Ryanair Chase and Gold Cup being strongly considered.

Even if he were to run, he looks to have a much stronger challenge this year with both Chacun Pour Soi and Defi Du Seuil being very impressive in their most recent outings.

A look back on the 2019 Ladies’ Day

Betting on fancied favourites proved a profitable strategy on the second day of the 2019 Festival, with Altior, Tiger Roll, Band Of Outlaws and Envoi Allen all coming home in front.

If you want a tip for an outsider over the four days of the festival, it may be best to focus on the Fred Winter Hurdle. These are the starting prices of the last eight winners: 33/1, 33/1, 13/2, 25/1, 33/1, 25/1, 40/1 and 28/1.
